The Importance of Cultivating Your Mind

The Importance of Cultivating Your MindCultivating your mind every day is one of the most important things you can do. Too many sales people believe and act as though their education is complete once they’ve completed formal schooling. The truth is is that you need to dedicate yourself to be an active and engaged lifelong learner if you want to be effective at your job. The more knowledge you have about everything from housing industry trends, to business news and social issues, to emotional intelligence and building relationships, to the best gardening tips and the latest in architectural design, the more valuable you become as an agent.

Dedicate yourself to be an active and engaged learner so that you can increase your value as a real estate agent and serve your clients better. You’ll instantly see the benefits.

Whether you are picking up a book to read, attending a community lecture, or joining a volunteer group, learning increases your world view, opens you to different perspectives and raises your curiosity. Plus, research shows that it can even boost your self-esteem.

Here are a few things you can do to cultivate your mind:

  • Always have a book on the go. Take it with you everywhere and read it in spurts.
  • Read business publications, real estate magazines, and business blogs.
  • Read the local newspaper, stay current with the news.
  • Listen to audio programs, attend seminars, join trade associations, participate in networking groups.
  • Volunteer for committee work, attend local events, fairs, activities, be “in the know” on what’s happening in your neighborhood niche market.
  • Take a class at a community college, invest in your personal and business development by working with a success strategist.
  • Teach others. One of the best ways to solidify your own learning is to teach others. Share with your friends and family the things you learn, write a blog about it, or mentor someone.

Make learning a habit. Make it continuous, postive and fulfilling.
